Curatorial Text
Latin America is a vast region where many different cultures converge.
Throughout the years, the countries of Latin America have experienced many migrations, and have received people from diverse nationalities:
This mobility, in conjunction with the unique characteristics of each individual country, resulted in a great variety of artistic expressions that are difficult, if not impossible, to categorize.
However, as all artforms deal with the human condition, it is possible to find many points in common among the ideas explored by artists with Latin American roots.
The focus of this exhibition is to explore the diversity and richness found in the work of artists living in the United States, particularly in Houston, who are connected, either literally or metaphorically, with Latin American culture, and all of the selected works are shown to reflect these ties.
In the search for commonalities among the artworks, the exhibition is organized in three parts, following three main themes that unify each sec-tion:
The Real, The Magic, and The Abstract.
As expected, these categories are fluid and flexible, and some pieces function as connectors between sections, as their visual language overlap two or more of those themes.
Within each section there is a wide variety of formats, materials, and styles that perfectly demonstrate how vast and diverse the culture of Latin America is.
